Lace Storage Cabinet by Mary

Hello everyone. Today I have GSLC's China Cabinet that I am using to show/store those smaller pieces of lace. Sorry for the poor pictures - my camera is hiding somewhere in my craft room and I had to use my janky cell phone!

I decided to assemble my cabinet without the doors (Here is Shanna's post showing the cabinet with doors!) leaving plenty of room on the shelves. The entire cabinet was covered with the Kellerkurtz & Company paper stack. Before I attached the paper to the cabinet, I had inked all the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink.   For the layered border, I did cut off part of the ends since I did not want it to hang over the edges of the cabinet. I did leave the back piece of the border untouched and heat embossed the top layer with a coordinating color.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today. Make sure you stop back tomorrow for TWO new posts by the team!

"Beach Rules" - House Shrine Box by Kathy Clement

Hello, Friends! I don't know about you, but my soul has been longing for the sea. Summer is such a busy time around here with visits from dear friends, family birthdays and lots of deadlines for work. There's no time to escape to the coast, unless I do it on paper! Luckily for me, I had a wonderful little Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts House Shrine Box to work with, and I immediately thought "beach cottage!"

I pulled out my Graphic 45 By the Sea papers and went to work building this darling little Beach Rules House Shrine to share with you today. Putting this one together was almost as good as a day at the shore, minus the sand in my shoes and wind in my hair.

The finished box measures 4" x 8" x 1.5". The depth gives you lots of room to add lovely layers and 3-D embellies. I put together a Snapguide tutorial for you so that you can follow along and see how this all came together.

Phone and Tablet Charging Station by Gloria

Good morning! It's Gloria and I am sharing a "super cool" phone and tablet charging station tutorial today! While I only have a "dumb" phone, the rest of my family has smart phones, and I do have a tablet that is need of charging. Who wouldn't want a pretty charging station?! When GSL came out with the Tablet/Ipad/Phone Holder, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it!

I combined the NEW Tablet/Ipad/Phone Holder with the Hidden Drawer Book Box to make a storage and charging station.
I used GSL chipboard elements (see supply list at the end of the post) along with Graphic 45 Communique and Typography collections to decorate the station. Since I am not planning to use the project as a viewing station, I decided to decorate the front as well as the back.

A Graphic 45 drawer pull made the perfect handle for my (not so hidden) drawer!

I attached the Tablet/Ipad/Phone Holder to the Hidden Drawer Book Box with strong glue so that it would be very stable.

The Miniature Photo Reel makes a great rotatory telephone piece!

The back of the station is also decorated. Plus, the station is raised up on 4 little feet, made from bingo tiles!
I love this quote by Rutherford B. Hayes, 19th President of the United States, who said, "The telephone is an amazing invention but who would ever want to use one?" I used the lightbulb with my "fake Rutherford" inside to make a joke about "great ideas."

I used a chipboard decoration to act as the cord holder for when the phone or tablet is charging.

You simply feed the cord through the holder and around the side to the phone. I love how pretty AND functional this project is!

The charging station can hold two smart phones, or one smart phone and one dumb phone, as shown here.
The station also holds my Ipad Air. My Ipad is in a case, but there is still enough space in the holder part to accommodate it!

Mixed Media Beach Canvas with Xyron by Lynne

Hello crafty friends! I had so much fun getting inky and painty and messy creating this canvas! The beach-themed items are a great size for this 8" x 10" canvas. They would also work beautifully on a larger one if you just wanted to focus on a few items or even a smaller one to create a more clustered effect.
The canvas base was primed with gesso and then sponge painted with blue and tan acrylic paint. I ran the chipboard waves (painted blue) and the die cuts (birds, cattails, and the design in the upper right corner) through the Xyron sticker maker machine then added them to the canvas. They were then lightly sponged with the same acrylic paints.

The shell pieces were each done separately. I mixed micro-beads with texture paste for the starfish to give it a rougher texture and I rubbed white texture paste onto the sand dollar with my finger just enough to give it a sort of chalky look. The two shells were sponged a bit and I very lightly brushed on some of the mists I was going to be using. The Xyron machine was wonderful for all these odd-shaped pieces! I did add thick glue dots to some of the pieces just because they were layered over the one next to them and parts of them were lifted a little higher off the canvas.

The fence was painted tan then run through a wood grain embossing folder which had been dabbed with a white Distress Paint dauber (aptly named Picket Fence) and the lighthouse was painted white then distressed with the tan paint and a bit of light brown ink which I rubbed in with my fingers. Did I mention I like to get messy when I craft?!

I then misted lightly over the canvas with tan and turquoise mists and a touch of opaque white. I lightly brushed a little turquoise mist over the waves to define them and then rubbed a bit of blue ink along their edges.

I inked around the edges of the canvas with tan and blue inks and then pronounced it done! Thanks heaps and piles for stopping by and I hope you have a chance to get inky and painty and messy this week!

Steampunk Artist Card by Ginny Nemchak

Hey there Peeps! Dropping in today to share a tag I created with a steampunk style with gears and bulbs and a fabby artist stamp.

I stared with a selecting the chippies.....Steampunk Light Bulb Shapes Set.
Gave them a base coat with Gesso...I used a makeup aplicator.
Some of the chippies have been finished with Perfect Pearls Mist in Bronze, Art-C Gold and Silver Metallic Paint, and BoBunny Chocolate Pearlescents.  Allowed to dry and edges inked with Memento Ink in Black. I also used a Pitt Big Brush to add additional detail and a Finnabair stamp.
Allow to dry completely and add a layer of heat set gloss embossing.
Now for some fun layering of the chippies, flowers, ribbon and trims....
I snuck in a Miniature Book Plate with a section of the Altered Pages Stamp. This chippie was finished simply with gold glittery embossing.
Chippies all layered up over the edge of the Triptych Arch frame with a coat of flat black acrylic.
I'm using Stunning in the Coture Collection from Graphic 45 for the background. There are also some Shabby Chic Metal Clock Keys and Door Plates for accent.

Art Doll Mixed Media by Shanna

Hello all you awesome crafters out there. I am excited to share my creation with you all!

I created this mixed media piece and had a blast making it.  I used stamps from Altered Pages and this really cool Xyron sticker maker.

I started with the background and using lots of stencils and paints to create. I painted my chipboard pieces with gesso and Distress Paints. Then pinned the arms and legs with brads.

I stamped the images and cut them out. I added the hourglass to my House Jewelry piece using the Xyron sticker maker and sealed it with glossy accents.

Then I added some chit chat stickers to finish the piece off.

I hope you found some inspiration today and come back again for a visit soon!

Steampunk Mermaid Matchbox Theatre by Jessica Armstrong

This week I got to work with some steampunk under-the-sea bits and bobs. The whole theme of this piece is blue and gold - I used gold leaf on all the chipboard pieces, which I'm a huge fan of.
The outside of the box, decorated with a top-hat wearing mermaid, who is holding a steampunk gear-shell.

Simple blue and white scrapbook paper was used to give the piece a watery feel.

Build on top of each previous layer, with the new layer of chipboard gives more dimension.

And out slides the theater piece

I've used some waves and another mermaid and a gear in the background. More layering!

The theatre on its own, with crumbled blue scrapbook paper in the background.
